Beijing: (Re)construction
I think the most interesting part was seeing the city evolving daily as old buildings got torn down and new buildings shot up.
The entire city of Beijing is under construction- great boulevards are covered with huge plywood facades with architectural renderings of shops nestled in scaled down, tree-lined, pedestrian friendly streets.
Traditional concrete homes with their ornate roof tiles sit humbly next to towering, contemporary skyscrapers and even some wacky playful buildings with curvy outlines and intricate gridded facades.
