I was happy to see some adaptive reuse in the urban (re) development of Beijing. There is a new gallery culture devoted to emerging artists and modern art which shows that Beijing is moving forward. The Dongbianmen Watchtower, in a not-so-central part of town, is home to one branch of the Red Gate Gallery. It was so refreshing to see old buildings being converted for mixed-use projects. Although it was fairly empty and subway access was not that convenient, it has the potential to become the hub of a new "up and coming" neighborhood. Again, Paul and I managed to find one of the off-the-beaten path things to do which really inspired us. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to make it to the galleries in the 798 Art District.

Beijing: (Re)construction:: Galleries
